Shelter and Rescue Information

The VVMA Animal Welfare Committee is pleased to make the following updated information available to approved Vermont shelters and rescues.  Please note the updates in the Best Practices for Shelters documents.  If a rescue organization or shelter does not have a veterinarian of record, we would recommend that shelter personnel use a telemedicine platform for both diagnostic and treatment information.  If your organization is not listed here, please contact the VVMA at [email protected] for assistance.

Although the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association is no longer administering the Free Exam Program, we encourage veterinarians to coordinate with local shelters to offer a complimentary first examination in order to help support successful pet adoptions, establish early veterinary relationships, and promote ongoing preventive care for newly adopted animals. For this reason, we have kept our Free Exam Document as a resource to be modified for use by shelters, veterinarians and clinics. If you need assistance in modifying this for use, please reach out to [email protected]
