Euthanasia Techniques and Advanced Pain Management
with Dr. Julia Spade,

  • The program will include a discussion on advanced euthanasia techniques including different sedation/anesthesia protocols based on a patient’s disease process and alternative routes of pentobarbital injections.
  • We will also cover advanced pain management treatments for dogs and cats including case examples.

Julia Spade is the Group Medical Director for BluePearl Pet Hospice. She attended Kansas State University graduating Cum Laude in 2011. After graduation, she completed a one-year rotating internship at VCA Specialty Hospitals outside of Chicago, Illinois, where she was awarded “Intern of theYear”. Dr. Spade practiced emergency medicine for four years while also beginning her career in hospice and palliative care. She began working full-time in hospice and palliative care in 2016, with Last Wishes in Houston, Texas. She is certified in veterinary medical acupuncture through the CuraCore Company and hospice and palliative care through the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care.  

Dr. Spade enjoys pain management, palliative care, and allowing the family a dignified end-of-life experience. She loves teaching new veterinarians about advanced pain management, end-of-life communication, and patient care.  

When she is not working, she is running, reading, playing with her two-legged children, Scarlett and Wesley, and four-legged children, Gimli and Dizzy, or traveling with her husband Geoff.
